Michael Konstantinides Archbishop of America

In a few years the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, since her founding in 1922, will celebrate a centennial of abundant pastoral activities and invaluable contributions to the Greek Orthodox people of America. In recording the life and work of Michael Konstantinides, Archbishop of America, of blessed memory, this book seeks to project the contribution of the Orthodox Church to America, but primarily all of the unknown aspects in the work and initiatives of the blessed Archbishop Michael.

In spite of his rather brief pastoral ministry in America, Michael is appreciated as a unique protagonist in the history of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, inasmuch as he established new institutions in her functions that survive to this day, while at the same time he strengthened both the Orthodox Christian education and the Greek paedeia in the hearts and minds of the Greek-American faithful – the Homogeneia. Michael was a prototype of an hierarch of his time and he contributed significantly to the development and the recognition of the Orthodox Church by the western world.
