«Memory of memories»:
Like letters returned to the sender
the patter of rain in the night
and a piano playing across the street
bring back the memory of memories
we didn't know were there.
The scent of wet earth, warm bread, new books,
the throb of heartbreak dance tunes
behind closed doors and somewhere
the clip-clop of a horse's hooves
bring back the memory of memories
that could turn back the years.
Give me every colour of blue:
blue glass, blue shutters and a blue ribbon
on the first day of school.
Give me rain and rivers and trees
stillness, silence and long winter nights.
Nighttime is my time, with the cat on my lap
and the first words of a letter to you.
