Η Μαρία Τσέκα γεννήθηκε και μεγάλωσε στο Μανχάτταν της Νέας Υόρκης. Σπούδασε Αγγλική Φιλολογία και Ψυχολογία στο City College University of New York. Ζει στη Θεσσαλονίκη με τον σύζυγό της και τον πεντάχρονο γιο της. Διδάσκει τα αγγλικά ως μητρική τηςγλώσσα και είναι ιδιοκτήτρια κέντρου ξένων γλωσσών. Λατρεύει τη διδασκαλία και τη συγγραφή, ειδικά την παιδική λογοτεχνία. Στον ελεύθερο της χρόνο συμμετέχει σε διαφορά εκπαιδευτικά σεμινάρια.
